Rail and Road Freight
Super Economy
A highly cost-effective option for non-urgent freight where transit time is flexible. Super Economy is ideal for regular or bulk movements where budget is the priority rather than speed.
This service primarily utilises standard intra and inter-island rail services, supported by road transport where required, to deliver reliable freight movement at the lowest possible cost.
Best suited for:
• Non-time-critical freight
• Bulk or palletised goods
• Regular, repeat shipments
• Customers looking to minimise transport costs.
Example use case
A South Island manufacturer ships bulk packaging materials from Christchurch to Auckland each week. Because the freight is not urgently required and is ordered well in advance, the Super Economy service allows them to move large volumes using inter-island rail and road combinations at a significantly reduced cost compared to express options. This helps the business maintain steady inventory levels while keeping transport expenses under control.
Economy
A standard freight service offering a balance between cost and reliability. Economy is suited to general freight that does not require express handling but still needs consistent, dependable delivery across New Zealand.
This service uses a mix of road transport and priority inter-island rail services to provide predictable transit times at a competitive rate.
Best suited for:
• General freight with moderate delivery timeframes
• Businesses needing dependable, nationwide coverage
• Palletised or loose freight
• Customers seeking value without sacrificing reliability
Example use case
A national retail supplier regularly ships stock from Auckland to Christchurch to replenish store inventory. While the freight isn’t urgent enough for express delivery, it must arrive on a dependable schedule to meet sales demand. The Economy service provides the right balance, using priority rail and linehaul trucks for the Intra and inter-island leg. Ensuring consistent arrivals while keeping freight costs under control.
Metro General
A metro-focused service designed for reliable day-to-day freight movements within metropolitan, surrounding and regional areas.
Same-day and next-day delivery options are available depending on pickup times. Ideal for local business freight requiring efficient, reliable turnaround.
Best suited for:
• Local business-to-business freight
• Regular metro and regional deliveries
• Cartons, parcels, and palletised freight
• Customers needing fast local turnaround
Example use case
A Christchurch wholesaler distributes product daily to retailers across the wider metro area. Using Metro General, orders picked up in the morning are delivered the same day or next day, allowing stores to restock quickly without the cost of express services.
Courier Oversized
A specialised service for large, bulky, or awkward freight that exceeds standard courier size or weight limits. Ideal for oversized freight that traditional courier networks cannot accommodate.
General carriers are not set up to move these oversize freight items with their bulk freight without risk of damage, mis-sorting or items getting lost in transit.
Best suited for:
• Long, bulky, or light long items
• Items over 20kg but under 40kg
• Irregularly shaped freight
• One-off or specialised deliveries
• Non palletised items
Example use case
A construction supplier needs to deliver long aluminium extrusions to a job site. Courier Oversized provides a practical solution for freight that standard couriers cannot handle, ensuring safe delivery without repackaging, palletising or delays.
Chilled Freight
Temperature-controlled transport designed to maintain chilled conditions throughout transit. This service is suitable for perishable goods where temperature integrity is critical. Half-pallet and full-pallet options are available.
Best suited for:
• Chilled food and beverage products
• Pharmaceuticals and temperature-sensitive goods
• Businesses requiring cold-chain compliance.
Example use case
A food producer ships chilled products from Christchurch to Wellington for retail distribution. Chilled Freight ensures consistent temperature control from pickup through to delivery, protecting product quality and meeting food safety requirements.
Frozen Freight
Frozen freight transport ensuring products remain at required frozen temperatures from pickup to delivery.
This service supports cold-chain requirements for food and other temperature-sensitive goods, with half-pallet and full-pallet options available.
Best suited for:
• Frozen food products
• Long-distance frozen distribution
• Customers with strict temperature controls
